New Jersey: Oppose SB 2847
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy and State Senator Vin Gopal have proposed repealing the sales tax reduction and the sales tax cap on boats. Eliminating this popular boat sales tax cap falls short of its goal and would instead hurt our economy even more.
The bipartisan boat sales tax was enacted in the wake of Hurricane Sandy to bolster the economy and New Jersey’s boating industry, and over the last five years has done just that. So far, it has:
- Increased the number of registered boats, many of which were registered in neighboring states; and
- Reduced declining state registrations by 90%.
Raising the boat sales tax would do more harm than good during a critical moment of economic recovery, and now is not the time to stifle the growth of New Jersey’s economy.
New Jersey legislators need to hear from you – tell them to oppose Senate Bill 2847!
