Drive Marine Technology and Innovation
Tell Congress to support the development of sustainable marine fuels

The recreational boating industry has reduced emissions from marine engines by more than 90% and increased fuel efficiency by more than 40% since 2000. Recreational boating today accounts for just 0.7% of transportation carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Yet, it now requires a technology-neutral approach to continue reducing emissions and improving efficiency. American-made, energy-dense liquid alternative maritime fuels represent a vital part of the solution, and their effective development and deployment will be critical for the long-term certainty of America’s iconic recreational boating industry.

To better leverage private sector investments and meet international requirements in this area, there are a variety of polices federal policymakers should advance to support the development of these alternative fuels and the infrastructure to support them. Examples include implementing a Sustainable Maritime Fuel Grand Challenge that focuses on modernizing America’s aging maritime fueling infrastructure (both commercial and recreational) or expanding R&D incentives to improve maritime biofuels and e-fuels development, hydrogen research, and battery density. Without a supportive policy framework, we risk falling behind nations like China, which have aggressive targets for maritime fuel production.

Write your member of Congress and urge them to support the development of sustainable marine fuels.
