Tell Congress to Support Bipartisan Legislation That Protects Boating Access

Senators Manchin, Boozman and Representatives Carter and Peltola introduce bipartisan, bicameral legislation to block ineffective and burdensome boating speed limits

The recreational boating and fishing industry strongly supports bipartisan, bicameral legislation introduced by Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV),  John Boozman (R-AR), and  Representatives Mary Peltola (D-AK) and Buddy Carter (R-GA) which will safeguard boating access and protect boater safety. The Protecting Whales, Human Safety, and the Economy Act of 2023 will ensure that Americans continue to have the opportunity to enjoy boating along the Atlantic coast free of onerous regulations. The bipartisan legislation will:

  • Prevent the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) from implementing a restrictive 10 knot vessel speed limit that threatens boater safety and local economies up-and-down the coast; and
  • Encourage NOAA to implement technology-based real time location monitoring solutions that will better allow boaters to maintain safe distances from marine life and avoid dangerous situations.

Innovative solutions and balanced regulations as proposed in this bipartisan legislation offer the best paths to both protect boating access for all Americans while also safeguarding endangered marine life.

Write to your members of Congress and urge them to support and cosponsor the Protecting Whales, Human Safety, and the Economy Act of 2023 which will bring innovative, high-tech solutions to protect endangered marine life and  recreational boating access for American families across the country.
